Marimba and Piano Duet 
 
This four mallet solo for marimba and piano is scored for a low-A marimba. A variety of techniques are required, including playing with the handles, the use of dead strokes and one-handed rolls. The pianist has passages that require holding the strings with one hand while playing with the keyboard with the other.  The solo is tonal, and rhythmic content provides a dance-like spirit. The solo comes with two piano scores to assist with preparation, but it requires quick memorization because of page turns. The extensive use of ostinato material will put this solo within reach of an undergraduate marimba student.

This is a beginning book which contains 68 melodies by well-known composers, 20 of which have accompaniment provided.

The Guatemalan Malletote is hand-made by indigenous Guatemalan artisans living in remote villages.  The fabric is made on small hand looms and stitching is done on sewing machines powered by a foot treadle.

The fabric of each malletote contains a variety of patterns.  Each patch is a native pattern distincitve of a particular group, village or locale.  Since the loomers constantly change the mix of patterns as they make the fabric, no two Malletotes are alike.  Each is unique.

Designed as a learning tool, these sticks enable drummers to feel the rebound, develop finger technique, hold the stick properly, and feel the whipping motion of the Moeller technique. They are also useful in countering the effects of tendonitis, a result of holding drum sticks too tightly over a long period of time.

Holding the side pads between the thumb and index finger insures a proper grip and more control. The 3 holes in the stick allow the side pads to be unscrewed and reattached at a different location depending where the player is most comfortable holding the stick.

Also, HingeStix™ allows the drummer to practice and understand the whipping motion of the Moeller technique. The player can now feel how the stick actually follows the motion of their hand, like throwing a baseball.

All these applications will help drummers once they go back to their regular sticks for actual playing. They should now feel with their own sticks what it felt like to play with the HingeStix™.

Percussion Ensemble  
 
This percussion ensemble for five players uses xylophone, two marimbas, vibraphone, and tupan. The two marimba parts can be played on one five octave marimba, depending on instrument availability. The tupan is a double headed, wooden drum common to Bulgaria. The composer suggests any hand drum as a substitute for the tupan. The vibraphone player must employ three mallet technique throughout. The work is in 11/16 meter, which will be a challenge for the ensemble to count at first. The xylophone part features a solo cadenza, and verbal cues are part of the piece for all players. Additionally, all keyboard players will play with mallet handles on the edge of the bars. This unusual pairing of ragtime and Bulgarian rhythms creates a fun, fast-paced performance experience.

The Rhapsody Percussion Stick Bag is constructed of heavy-duty wear-resistant material.  It has 3 main pockets for mallets, 2 small pockets for tuning keys and a 3rd pocket for flat objects on the inside.  On the outside of  bag is one more larger pocket.  The stick bag features clips so you can attach it to your drum or mallet instrumet and heavy duty handles and carrying straps.  The entire bag is completly closed with a large zipper that extends the entire length of the bag.  Closed Dimentions are 19″ x 9″.  Open Dimentions are 19″ x 17″.

This etude-like work emphases single alternate strokes simultaneously in both hands. The main motif expands into a rhythmically complex yet pleasing melody, characteristic for Mr. Tanchev’s unique compositional approach. Influenced by Bulgarian folk music, the motif switches rhythmically between 5/8 and 9/8 time signatures and changing accents, which many times creates the effect of one long phrase crossing over the bar line. This work gives a performer the opportunity to exercise his technique and at the same time to exhibit a sense of rhythm and musicality. “Scissors” makes a great recital or audition work and will add a little spice to any concert.

The Multi-Percussion Student stick is an excellent choice for the all around percussionist.  The green rubber head works well on most accessories such as wood blocks, cowbells, tom toms and is versatile enough to produce a pleasant sound on a glockenspiel or xylophones. The hickory shaft is 3/8 ” thick and 14 1/2″ long.

The Xylophone Student stick is an excellent choice for the new mallet player.  The white plastic head is designed for the student xylophone but will also work well on a glockenspiel. The hickory shaft is 3/8 ” thick and 14 1/2″ long.

The Glockenspiel/Bell Student stick  is made with a small hard plastic mallet head best used on studnet glockenspiels.  It is not recommended for xylophones or marimbas, as it will likely damage the bars because the plastic is too hard.  The small size accomodates the small bar width found on most student bell sets.  The hickory shaft is 3/8 ” thick and 14 1/2″ long.
