Sarah Basel to perform as Principal Percussionist with Evanston Symphony Orchestra

On May 8, 2011 Sarah Basel will perform as the principal percussionist with the Evanston Symphony Orchestra. Sarah will be filling in for the regular principal percussionist, Brian Kabot. This concert is filled with “blockbuster percussion hits” including Appalachian Spring, Rhapsody in Blue (with piano soloist Lawrence Eckerling), Candide Overture and Merry Mount Suite. RHAPSODY IN BLUE
Celebrate a “suite” Mother’s Day with the ESO and Maestro Eckerling, as he debuts as pianist (while conducting) in Gershwin’s ever-popular Rhapsody in Blue. Our season finale includes suites for full orchestra from Grieg’s incidental music for an Ibsen play, Howard Hanson’s tuneful opera, and Copland’s classic ballet featuring the Shaker melody “Simple Gifts.”
